Two States-Chapter 3-Megamalai

Good day peeps! Hope you are doing great! New to this story?! Click here to know all about the Two states chapter- https://dbexplorers.blogspot.com/2020/11/two-states-chapter-1.html

After having the grateful breakfast Finally, Dora and Boots decided to hit the most beautiful, unexplored gem: Megamalai wherein megam means clouds and malai means hill. It lies in western ghat near Theni. The temperature dropped even more and trippers were shouting oooohoooo! Hills are always beautiful when it is lush green with a water body nearby, isn't it? inhaling the fresh air Boots said, " I wanna remove this helmet and feel the nature"! "I am already doing it," said giggling Dora. With no idea how the journey and destination is gonna be, the trippers started their exploration. The police halted the bike at a check post and ensured that the vehicle should be returned before 6 PM which means the duration is from 6 AM to 6 PM. Usually, it is not advisable to wander in hill areas after dusk due to the movement of wild animals, darkness, and the weather. At the time the trippers went, there was no staying option available in Megamalai due to its unpromoted tourism. The main occupation was tea estates and one, two shops. There were even no hotels for dining lunch! Hardly one hotel wherein if visitors wanna dine nonveg dishes, they will have to grab the meat from downhill.

After nodding to the policemen, Mr.Boots vroomed the bike uphill. This part of the journey was like other small hill stations wherein we have twists and turns along with hairpin bends. The roads were smooth and no vehicles were found ahead of them. To hide the tiredness of waking up at 3 am, the trippers sang songs, talked about various travel destinations. Mr.Boots halted the bike on the way and clicked a few pictures of Ms.Dora and nature. Ms.Dora replicated the same by clicking wonderful pictures of Boots. As they reached a few meters uphill, the hill station was incredible. The tea estates with its lush green tea leaves, the people who wore a large drum-like bag and plucked those leaves manually and landing it in the drum-like bag, and other few ladies who used larger sized scissors, the breezy weather was splendid. The tea trees were not grown continuously but in a patch manner. Few grounds were prepared for plantation. They also heard that even the workers in these estates would go downhill after 6 PM, anyways not sure about this fact. They came across a village which was quiet and pleasant wherein trippers like Ms.Dora and Mr.Boots loves to have a sweet home. They can breathe fresh air with lots of oxygen in it, unlike the bustling city.

The village had pepper, cardamom plantations other than tea estates. The village had a bridge that crosses a water body flowing slowly with ripples getting formed often due to cool breeze. One of the banks had tea plants while others had a cardamom plantation. The trippers captured few pictures over the bridge. The bridge view was splendid because it had a lush green mountain waiting for them on the other side. A shop with petty snacks laid the other side where trippers bought some biscuits and water while returning and ensured not to litter this beauty! The journey continued with larger twists and turns to the uphill, but this time it was off roads!

The trippers traveled in Pulsar NS 200 which is not a bike made for no roads. But Mr.Boots gut feel let him do that! Yeah, there was off-road completely for 15 km from the village and Dora was perplexed. Soon few jeeps easily climbed the pathway with visitors. The bike toiled hard to move up in those rocks and pebbles beneath. Mr.Boots ensured to ride carefully because these rocks might sometimes trip off the rider! Dora wasn't able to withstand the ups and downs she faced in the pillion seat, hence she got down and trekked! Her helmet was tied up with the carriage behind. After some time Mr.Boots would take Dora on his bike and after a few minutes, again manual trekking happened. This went on for a period while Mr.Boots asked a local about the distance of the destination and the reply was "Thambi, paadhi vali kudhan vandhirka! inum iruku!" which means there is another halfway lying ahead similar, deadlier than this!

Perplexed Boots continued his journey. The jeeps were going to and fro which added difficulty to those narrow no-roads. The pathway had red-mud, huge rocks, pebbles which made it hard to even climb with the foot! On the way, Dora noticed two elephants at the top hill! It was somewhat brown in color. Mr.Boots halted the bike and tried to capture them. Dora questioned, "Boots, do the places where you are standing are habitat to snakes?" Boots immediately got down to his bike and the journey continued.
So what is the destination? A beautiful view right! How come a 1500 meter altitude hill gives a different view, unlike other hill stations? Should the trippers face these difficulties for a mountain view which other hills are already giving?! Maybe after laying proper roads, this place will be promoted for tourism?! were the doubts rolling on the tripper's cerebrum!

The viewpoint actually lies in one of the tea estates for which manual hiking has to be done! Gotcha the above-mentioned questions will be answered by the pictures in the next blog! Stay tuned peeps.
